Mother's Group to Hold Gun Legislation Rally on Mother's Day

The group will gather to read the Mother's Bill of Rights.

Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America will host a gun legislation rally at the statehouse on Mother’s Day, a press release stated. Moms, supporters and victims of gun violence will meet in front of the statehouse at 10 a.m. on Sunday, the release stated.  Participants will then circle the statehouse before reading the Mother's Bill of Rights and honoring those participants who have lost someone to gun violence. Columbia Man Dies After Greenville Party Fight

De'Bron Aldrick Harrison was attacked at a party in Greenville a week earlier.

De'Bron Aldrick Harrison, 20, has died after being attacked at a girl's 16th birthday party in Greenville, WIS reports.  Read more HERE.  Harrison died from a blunt force trauma to the head and was hospitalized for more than a week.

4 Teens Arrested for Robbery, Kidnapping

The four allegedly robbed four men in a two-day span.

Quatavious Bernard Bivens, Lakerio Vashun Lott, Christopher Antwan Morgan and Tyrone Lamar Weeks were arrested and charged with robbery and kidnapping stemming from four incidents on April 1 and 2.  The first incident occured on April 1 on Oak Street. A male told police that three black males were following him on foot as he walked alone. They then pointed a gun at him and demanded money, according to a press release. When he told them he didn’t have any, he said they pointed a gun at his head and searched his pockets. The suspects allegedly stole several cans of beer before running away. Shortly after that incident, another male told police that he was robbed after withdrawing money from an ATM on Harden Street. Early Registration Begins for Midlands Summer Camps

Columbia Residents Asked to Save Energy, Dim Lights

A city-wide effort to conserve energy starts Saturday night.

Columbia residents are being asked to dim their lights at 8:30 p.m. Saturday night in an international effort to conserve energy, The State reports. For one hour, residents are asked to dim non-essential lights.  Read more here. 

Area Students Honored at Colleges, Universities

These Columbia natives are making a name for themselves at colleges and universities across the country.

Lindsey Gollach and Samantha Scott were both named to the Dean's List at Coker College for the fall semester. Both earned a 3.75 or higher grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Miriam Jackson, a student at USC Upstate, was inducted to The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.  Congrats to these students!
