Large empty storefront in The Crossings shopping center
The Crossings shopping center lost another tenant last week when Blockbuster closed, but with every empty storefront comes an opportunity. This vacant space in the shopping center at the intersection of Clemson Road and Hardscrabble Road used to be a Food Lion, with the shadow of the grocery's stores logo still visible. The location includes convenient parking and a great neighbor in Bobby's House of Pizza. Style Cleaners and Pet Friends Vet Clinic also sit nearby, providing the opportunity for a revived multi-use center if the right tenant arrives. A sign in the window says 29,000 square feet of space are available for rent, so it begs the question, what should go here? A specialty grocery store? A hardware store? A bowling alley? Let …

A large corner storefront at the Village at Sandhill begs for a tenant
What should go here? It seems like an easy question, but with all the Village at Sandhill already has to offer, thinking of something new takes some creativity. This storefront sits near Rita's far from Sandhill's Town Center Plaza. With electronics stores, hair salons and Bi-Lo nearby, what business would be perfect for this empty space? The space is larger than many in the Village at Sandhill, but probably not large enough for a Trader Joe's, a business one reader suggested in a previous "What Should Go Here?" So, do we need a new coffee shop or a new dry cleaner? A new romantic restaurant? Let us know your ideas in the comments section below. Know of another empty storefront looking for a match? Let us know in the comments and we'll …

Now it's for lease, a misfit toy if you will, looking for the right suitor. The space, located across from Panera Bread and beside Reeds Jewelers, seems prime for retail space. During the last "What Should Go Here?," our readers suggested eateries from Subway to Trader Joe's. With all that the Village already has to offer, let us know what you think it needs. Tell us what should go in this empty space using the comments!

What should replace the recently closed Starbucks?
This empty storefront in the Village at Sandhill used to house the complex's second Starbucks. Now, it's a rare vacancy in the Town Center section of the popular outdoor mall. The vacant store sits in the center of the Village at Sandhill, next to a Lady Foot Locker and Yogen Fruz. During the summer, the Sandhill Concert Series produced long lines and steady traffic, but the second Starbucks still could not survive. So, we want to know, what should go here? Tell us your thoughts in the comment section below. About this column: Every week or so, we'll post a picture of a vacant store or lot in the Northeast Columbia area. You can tell us what you think should replace the empty space. Know of an empty building we should highlight? E-mail …

I seen that, they also have one on this side town off of Hard Scrabble. But I have not seen a true coffee bar here in columbia at all. Maybe there is not a large enough market for it.   more ›
