Parents are encouraged to bring proof of residency papers to the school guidance office before the school year lets out.
Richland School District Two continues to require proof-of-residence documentation for all students. Proof of residency documents include: completely executed rental lease, or a real estate purchase contract. All documents must be dated within 30 days of the date on which they are submitted to the school, the Richland Two website stated. Click here for more information.

The students' project on improving drop-off and pick-up procedures at their school won the Law Related Education Middle School Project Citizen Showcase.
Submitted by the S.C. Bar. Students from Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary School's ACE Program have won the S.C. Bar Law Related Education (LRE) 2013 Project Citizen Championship title at the middle school level, marking it the fourth time the school has won. The project, titled "Bee Safe at the Hive in the Traffic Line," addressed the need for improved drop-off and pick-up procedures in the car pick up line at schools to improve safety. The fair features rides, exhibits, entertainment and more.
The 18th Annual Sparkleberry Country Fair starts Friday at the Clemson Sandhill Reasearch and Education Center across from the Village at Sandhill, with amusement rides running from 4 to 10 p.m. The full fair - with vendors, performances, car shows and more - is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Amusement rides will run from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Saturday as well. This year’s fair will feature a special tribute honoring Wounded Warriors of all wars. Fort Jackson Commanding General, Brig. Gen. Bryan T. Roberts and S.C. Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Robert E. Spring Valley High is ranked 1,610 out of the nearly 30,000 schools nationwide.
Spring Valley High is one of the nation's most challenging high schools, according to the Washington Post. The school was ranked 1,610 out of nearly 30,000 schools. The Washington Post rates schools using an index formula. They divide the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Advanced International Certificate of Education tests given at a school each year by the number of seniors who graduated that year to come up with a ratio. Four other schools in the Midlands made the list, including two in Richland-Lexington District 5. Only 14 schools in South Carolina made the list. See the full list of most challenging schools.

Sheriff's deputies are looking into a report that nude photos of Richland Two students have been posted to Instagram, an online photo-sharing site, The State reports. Photos of at least 10 girls were posted, according to other internet comments, The State reported. WLTX reports that the photos were girls with the names and schools posted to identify them. The account that allegedly posted the photos no longer exists, WLTX reports. Earlier this year Patch reported on the possible consequences that come from producing child pornography. Nareka Mentor has been battling cancer since her sophomore year at the school.
Senior Nareka Mentor is just months away from walking across the stage at graduation, but it hasn't been an easy journey. She has been battling cancer since her sophomore year, according to a report from WLTX, but her friends, her cheer squad and the entire school haven't let her go at it alone. "We all decided we are going to make this as painless as possible," Principal Sabrina Suber told WLTX. "When kids are sick in our buildings, we need to love them, embrace their sicknesses. Make the other students aware." When she started loosing her hair to chemotherapy, her fellow cheerleaders wore hats to make her feel more comfortable, according to the report. Students in the program at Richland Northeast High School brought home a handful of awards from the festival at Lander University.
Palmetto Center for the Arts theatre students at Richland Northeast High School took top honors at the Palmetto Dramatics Association and South Carolina Thespian Festival held at Lander University in February. The Pulitzer Prize winning play, “The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds,” directed by JoAnna Chriswell was selected to represent South Carolina at the International Thespian Conference to be held at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in June and received a superior rating for production. Acting honors for the play went to Hannah Lanford, who received a superior for her portrayal of Beatrice, and Hannah Barton and Kitty Janvrin who each received an excellent for their performances of Ruth and Tillie, respectively. …
