During any political convention, the rhetoric tends to get more inflammatory than usual—even by today’s standard. But on Wednesday morning at a delegate breakfast, South Carolina’s State Democratic Party Chair, Dick Harpootlian, turned the temperature up considerably. Harpootlian compared Gov. Nikki Haley to Eva Braun, Hitler’s mistress. According to The State, Harpootlian, who appeared to make the comment in jest, drew the analogy in response to Haley’s press conference on Tuesday in the basement of the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, where she, along with Rep. The State reports a deal is imminent
Richland School District Two will likely sign a contract this week to begin developing plans for a new district office, according to The State. District officials have been discussing plans for a new office for some time, with disagreement over where it should be located and whether funds should be allocated outside of the classroom during difficult economic times. During a board meeting in July, state Sen. Joel Lourie (D-Richland), a Richland Two graduate, expressed his concerns about moving the district offices to Northeast Richland county, possibly to the Village at Sandhill. State senator questions proposed location, expenditures
South Carolina Sen. Joel Lourie’s (D-Richland) words carry more weight than many Richland School District Two parents and alumni. Sen. Lourie addressed the Richland Two Board of Trustees during a school board meeting on Tuesday night at Dent Middle School and encouraged members to “be very judicious” in their decision-making over a new district headquarters. “I am concerned about relocating the district office and spending money at a time, even though it’s a different pool of money, when we’re having to lay off teachers," Lourie said.
