Monday kicks off the first day of the 28th annual Carolina/Clemson Blood Drive, the American Red Cross announced today. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and fans of both the University of South Carolina and Clemson University are encouraged to make donations starting today through Friday. In Columbia, blood donations can be made at the following locations on USC's campus: Monday, Nov. 12: Tuesday, Nov. 13 (USC Alumni Day): Wednesday, Nov. 14: Thursday, Nov. 15: Friday, Nov. 16: Blood donors at the USC will receive a commemorative blood drive T-shirt. Donors help meet South Carolina's large summer demand
Local donors gathered at the Village at Sandhill on Thursday afternoon to give blood during an American Red Cross Drive for Life Blood Drive. The event, which was sponsored by WACH Fox, Carolina 92.1 and Country Legends 94.3, helped meet the high needs of South Carolina hospitals during the summer months. American Red Cross communications manager Jamie Muldrow said the drive collected 83 units of blood, surpassing its goal of 70. According to the Red Cross, donations in May and June dropped to their lowest levels in more than twelve years. In South Carolina, the Red Cross supplies 54 hospitals and needs 500 people to give blood each day in order to meet its quotas.
