Who Is Freddie Grant?
The accused kidnapper of Gabrielle Swainson has held many jobs throughout the South.
Editor’s note: As few details emerge about the man accused of kidnapping Gabbiee Swainson, Patch compiled a profile on the 52-year-old who is allegedly not cooperating with authorities. Information from the sheriff, deputies, neighbors and family members contribute to a timeline of Grant’s life.
Freddie Grant's house sits down a gravel road across from a railroad, junkyard and a heavily wooded area in Elgin.
A shed and several cars sit on his property.
Down the road, neighbors and family members, gathered Tuesday to watch deputies search the area for missing 15-year-old Gabrielle Swainson.
Originally from Florida, Grant moved to South Carolina in 1975, said Cynthia Grant, his sister. After being stationed at Fort Jackson for four years, Grant remained in South Carolina while his brother and sister joined him.
His adult life was marred by relationships with several women, two of whom are at the center of Grant’s current legal troubles.
At some point, Grant was married to the aunt of Donna Hudson, now a neighbor of Grant.
Hudson said she joked that Grant was responsible for Gabbiee’s disappearance long before he was a suspect.
“He thought he was so smart,” Hudson said.
On Wednesday, the Richland County Sheriff’s Office sent out a press release asking for anyone who had employed Grant as a handyman. At the time of this release, they were asking employers to come forward to discuss the behavioral traits of Grant.
On Thursday, Sheriff Leon Lott said Grant was working as both a truck driver and handyman at the time of his arrest. It was released then that officials were looking at places where Grant worked as possible search locations for Gabbiee Swainson.
From the beginning of the search for Swainson, Grant had been on the front lines, handing out photos and helping search teams, Lott said. He was one of the first people to show up after Elvia Swainson reported the girl missing.
Somewhere around the time the girl went missing and the first few days of the search, there is a time when Grant’s location can’t be accounted for, Lott said.
Grant is being held on felony weapons charges, kidnapping charges and is a suspect in the disappearance of Gabbiee, Laster and the killing of an Elgin man in 2011. No charges have been filed in the final two cases.

Adrianna Laster reported that he poured fuel on her. I wonder if that was around the time his house burned? Also, the insurance fraud.....was that about the house fire??
There was and informational report that said grant took Laster to Lexington, are we looking there for grants connections in that area?
