Westwood High School doesn't have any students yet, but it has a football coach.
Rodney Summers, an offensive coordinator and assistant coach at Richland Northeast, earned the job after the Board of Trustees approved his hire Tuesday night.
Summers' coaching experience in Richland Two also includes stints as soccer coach at Ridge View and Richland Northeast and a basketball coach at Dent Middle School.
“We are thrilled to have Rodney Summers joining our team and we are confident he is the right choice to meet the challenges of building a new team from the ground up,” said Westwood Principal Ralph Schmidt.
Summers graduated from Coastal Carolina University and earned a Masters in Sports Administration from the United States Sports Academy.
Westwood will begin its athletic programs in Class 3A, one level below the other four Richland Two high schools. The State wrote about the beginnings of the program Wednesday.
Summers assumed the job as head coach immediately, but will continue to teach at Richland Northeast through the end of the school year.
