Swainson Update: 'As You Go to Church, Say a Special Prayer for Gabbiee'
The search continues for the missing 15-year-old. Here's what has happened so far.
A message posted from the Help Us Find Gabbiee Facebook page late Saturday night summed up the thoughts of hopeful friends and supporters of the missing 15-year-old, Gabrielle Swainson.
"As you go to church tomorrow will you please say a special prayer for Gabbiee," the message read. "Your prayers and kind words of encouragement means so much. We are trusting that God will bring her home. God Bless you and your family."
As of Sunday morning, it will be nine days since the girl vanished, and 24 hours since the case was upgraded from missing person to suspected foul play.
Recap of the search so far:
Swainson was reported missing on the morning of Aug. 18 when her mother returned home to find the girl missing. Her cell phone was gone, but her purse and clothes were still there.
On Aug. 20, search groups from her high school, Ridge View High School, organized in Spring Valley to look for the missing girl. By the end of that day, the Twitter hashtags #FindGabby and #FindGabs were trending among local teens as they used social media to get her photo out.
By Aug. 21 the search groups turned to handing out flyers. At this point, investigators said that there was no evidence to support foul play.
On Aug. 22, the search moved from Spring Valley to Broad River Road on the other side of Columbia.
Hearts stopped on Aug. 23 when the body of a female was found in Northeast Columbia. It was later determined not to be Swainson. A prayer vigil was held that night at her church. Marty Martin, principal of Ridge View High School, described Swainson as an exceptional student who was involved in many activities and always followed the rules.
Then on Aug. 24, a $6,000 reward was offered by community members for information leading to the recovery of Swainson.
On Aug. 25, investigators said they now suspect that Swainson did not leave on her own. Foul play is suspected.
