Spring Valley Student Earns Science Honor
Himabindu Vinnakota is the South Carolina winner of the 2012 Stockholm Junior Water Prize
Spring Valley High School student Himabindu Vinnakota is the South Carolina winner of the 2012 Stockholm Junior Water Prize.
She will travel to Boston to present her project, "The effects of both Sargassum and Aspergillus niger on the biosorption of lead (Pb) from water," at the national competition in June.
National winners will compete internationally in August.
Himabindu and her science teacher Donna McGehee will travel to the national competition in Boston, Massachusetts, June 14-16. Her sponsor is the Water Environment Association of South Carolina.
Himabindu will receive a framed certificate recognizing the her and Spring Valley High's contribution to the water environment, a SJWP state medal and a one-year WEF student membership.
Her paper will be published in The Journal, the official publication of the WEASC.
