Sound Off: Is New Navy Seal Book Appropriate?
New book is causing controversy on several fronts.
A new book by one of the Navy SEALs who took part in the killing of Osama Bin Laden is getting publicity that publishers only dream about.
The problem is, the publicity is not necessarily good.
The author of the book, who used the pen name Mark Owen, has been criticized by security experts for potentially jeopardizing the safety of current and former SEALs by disclosing information about the May 2011 raid that killed the man who orchestrated the attacks on America on September 11, 2001.
Neither the Pentagon nor the CIA vetted the book for accuracy and the author could be subject to prosecution for revealing national security secrets and/or sensitive military information.
Compounding matters is that some media outlets have identified the author, which could put him in danger.
Security leaks have been a controversial topic in this year's presidential campaign as Pres. Obama was accused by some of exploiting the raid for political gain by referencing it in political ads.
"No Easy Day" is being published on Sep. 11, which leaves it open to charges of exploitation.
So, who's right in this controversy?
Should the author of "No Easy Day" be disclosing state secrets? Should he be charged for doing so? Should he have been identified?
Tell us below.

I'll tell what's In-appropriate...the white house administration releasing top secrete information and leaking it to the general public that endangers our national security and the people of this nation; and that's what people should be most concerned about.

%100 agree-
The fact the we have even heard of Seal Team 6 is too much. These guys are/should not be glory hounds. This has already put future special op missions in danger.

@Susan Reaney: '...the white house administration releasing top secrete information and leaking it to the general public... that's what people should be most concerned about
as a member of the general public i have not seen any 'top secret' information leaked by the WH...have you...pls provide reference (pls not rush)...
is the information to which referred similar to the information that was leaked and outed valerie plame...
if so then there should be a though investigation (where's issa and the US AG)...wanta bet on the results of an impartial investigation...i'll bet the WH not responsible...
@Wounded Warrior: '...These guys are/should not be glory hounds...'
not sure who these guys are... x- seals or the WH...
if seals then;
these guys are not...this one guy (book author) is a greedy bastard...who saw the chance to make a buck and let greed trump his country's security...
if the WH then
all administration should watch their big mouth...as they say in the old country, 'loose lips sink ships'...besides sinking administrations...remember 'mission accomplished'...about 8 years too early...
re: Neither the Pentagon nor the CIA vetted the book for accuracy
this i dont understand...

Other than stating the name "Seal Team 6" (Which I would NOT have done), where is your proof that the White House has leaked "States Secretes" ?
You have none, only what you hear from Fox Noise ... which DID Publish the name of the books author ! Who is already receiving Death Threats !!!
I myself am a Retired Desert Storm Vet, who held a Top Secrete Security Clearance for many years. I've worked with Soldiers who's Rank and Job Title were "Classified", so I know what I'm talking about.
You should read this article, I'm not alone .... Partition Politics has NO Business in Security ! (Like OUTING Valery Plame and all who worked for her "Front Company" Bruster Jennings.)

Stanley, I don't know who you are but I'm trusting that those on the Defense Committee pretty much already know where the leak is from and they've said it is coming from the White House. Now as to just "who" in the White House is leaking national security information, I'll leave that up to them; but please do not imply that just because you haven't heard about it, it's not true. Maybe you should listen to the news a little more often. http://www.usnews.com/news/blogs/dotmil/2012/07/11/lawmakers-may-start-issuing-subpoenas-over-national-security-leaks

i dont know who your are either...more importantly...dont know its relevant who we are...anyway...
re: but please do not imply that just because you haven't heard about it...
you wrongly 'imply' that i 'imply' there are no leaks...my implication/opine IS:...there have been and are enough DEM/GOPs leaks to go around...
also suggested an investigation similar to the investigation of the outing of valerie plame...
re: Maybe you should listen to the news a little more often.
as should we all vice accepting party rhetoric as truth...listen to all the news not just likes of fox and friends...not implying you do...you probably read NYT, mother jones and the national memo...
then i dont know who you are...

took Susan Reaney's advice and listened...FYI
Obama leak 'scandal' is wildly overblown
By Peter Bergen, CNN National Security Analyst http://www.cnn.com/2012/06/20/opinion/bergen-washington-leak-scandal/index.html
[CLIP/conclusion] By and large, the leaks are a Washington pseudoscandal that hasn't really harmed national security but have instead helped to foster a legitimate debate about the future of drone warfare and of cyberattacks that promise to transform warfare as much as fast-moving tanks changed the face of war in the mid-20th century. [end clip]
'pseudoscandal' aka GOP bs...remember BO is a muslim born in kenya...and dont forget todd akin's scientific explanation of the reproductive system...

Hi Stanley. Glad to see you're involved in different threads as you seem to be providing a solid, objective, fact-based perspective... Do you happen to have a copy of BHO's birth certificate, grade school transcript, middle school transcript, high school transcript, college transcript, or any other information that would put closure to this discussion that these "damn birthers" keep bringing up? I'm tired of this being an issue of distraction that the opposition continues to bring up and would like it to end right now, once and for all, so that we can discuss serious issues. I am a huge advocate of Romney disclosing his tax returns, college transcript, etc. and am confident that if Obama does the same, we won't have to worry about OBH's background any more. Where are OBH's records, aside from the anecdotal snippets we get from confirmed OBH supporters? Just curious.

Rest assured, there is a reason. Just maybe the same as Romney has, but the media bias won't allow that to be an issue in the case of BHO. There is also a reason for the continued suspense-it allows candidates to avoid the REAL issues. The media sure harrassed GWB about his grades in college. Maybe BHO's grades were worse than GWB.

@Tom
not sure whether your comments are facetious or serious concerns...but in case some are serious concerns...
re: 'Where are OBH's records...'
BO's birth certificate is public knowledge...you can google; read opinions; then make up your mind...sense you have already done this and have no doubt he was born in the USA...however, there are no documents that will satisfy the BO-haters (birthers).
[CLIP] '...conspiracy theories persist despite Obama's pre-election release of his official birth certificate from Hawaii in 2008, confirmation by the Hawaii Department of Health based on the original documents, and the April 2011 release of a certified copy of Obama's original Certificate of Live Birth. [end clip]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obama_citizenship_conspiracy_theories
many GOPs (eg, mccain, romney) know and have stated BO was born in USA.
re school records: doubt they will be released...but you dont get to be president of harvard law review with a poor academic record...
as you said, 'this being an issue of distraction’...and most, 'would like it to end right now'...but as most know the BO-hater will never end it...

@maizenbluedoc: '...Maybe BHO's grades were worse than GWB.'
maybe...but doubt it...what difference does it make...it just another BO-hater distraction...
evidently confidential college records can be obtained...eg;
[CLIP] Confidential college transcripts and test scores obtained by the Washington Post reveal that neither presidential candidate, George W. Bush nor Al Gore, were shining students during their college days at Yale and Harvard, respectively. Although each earned respectable scores on the SAT college admissions test (a total of 1355 of 1600 for Gore and 1206 for Bush), neither did that well in their college courses. Both earned a mix of B and C grades. Gore's lowest grade of D came in a natural sciences course, while his top grades were an A in French and English, an A in Visual and Environmental Studies, and an A- in Social Relations. Bush's lowest marks were a 70 (of 100) in Sociology and a 71 in Economics, while his highest scores were High Passes in History and Japanese. [ens clip]http://www.insidepolitics.org/heard/heard32300.html
a similar comparison of BO v MITT would be an interesting distraction...bet both have better acdemic records than W or gore.
BTW colin powell graduated from CCNY (not a prestigious ivy league school.) with a C average...and I might vote for him over either BO or MITT.

DevGru had it's own website and 1-800 number up until 2005 and many within their ranks have published books, often as "fiction," about their training and ops.
You birthers are retarded. I don't mean that in the middle school teasing way. I mean you're developmentally disabled; you're given information and you start thinking about molding your own feces into statues.
