SC Republicans 'Thrilled' With Paul Ryan VP Pick
The 2012 presidential race headed for a "whole new level," one predicts.
South Carolina Republicans that Patch has spoken to on Saturday are excited about the choice of Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan as vice presidential nominee.
"This is going to be an exciting ticket — one that Republicans can enthusiastically get behind and endorse," said Taft Matney, a Greenville-area political consultant.
"We're about to see the 2012 presidential campaign kick up to a whole new level."
Gov. Nikki Haley, long-rumored to be under consideration for the VP position, responded on this morning on her Facebook page:
"WE now officially have a Dream Team of solutions: Mitt Romney/Paul Ryan! Both of these men understand its (sic) not about complaining and blaming, but producing results for the people of our great country. The race is on: Romney/Ryan vs Obama/Biden."
Karen Martin, a Spartanburg GOP precinct officer and organizer of the local Tea Party, said Ryan and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio were her top choices.
But Ryan is a better pick, Martin said, because he will not leave as big of a hole in the Senate as Rubio.
She said Ryan is a "clear leader," who "led on the budget issue and, most importantly, the entitlement issue, when no one else would."
“South Carolina Republicans are thrilled with the Romney-Ryan ticket to restore America," said SCGOP chairman Chad Connelly in a Saturday morning press release.
"Paul Ryan’s energy, ideas, and detailed knowledge of the federal budget are the perfect background for taking on Barack Obama’s failed policies on jobs and the economy. Paul Ryan will make America proud as the next Vice President.”
There are several demographics that Ryan's choice helps with, Martin said, including Catholics and Midwesterners.
The downsides, according to Martin, are that he voted for TARP (something she is willing to overlook) and that he's "unlikely" to challenge Romney in 2016.

I'm sure glad they are thrilled. I might be thrilled myself if I was from Wisconsin. I've never heard of the guy.

SC Democrats are thrilled also - Romney has now embraced a 10 year budget plan that dismantles Social Security and Medicare as we know it, and devastates the Military. Easy choice now for Democrats, Independents, and common-sense Republicans - President Obama.

Heard them on the radio this morning...I'm a little worried, who’s really running for President??? Since Romney apparently didn't know, otherwise why would he have introduced Paul Ryan as our next President? Just a tad concerned when the guy who's running for office thinks someone from his own party is too.

makes me wonder if he's subconsciously acknowledging that Ryan will actually be the nominee - there's a lot of talk about why Romney's trying to withhold his full tax returns. Some of that says Romney was one of a few hundred Americans who used one particular IRS form in 2010 - a form that more or less gave pardon for persons who the IRS knew were guilty of tax fraud on overseas earnings (the pardon was part of a program to make sure the IRS got its money). Just like a convicted felon can't be president, neither can anyone who was pardoned for a felony.

Karen Martin was right about one thing---Governor Romney's choice of Paul Ryan will certainly not leave as "big of a hole in the Senate" as would have been left if the good governor's choice had been Marco Rubio. Indeed, it will leave no hole at all, given that Paul Ryan does not, of course, serve in the Senate.
Of course, one really has to question just how devastated the United States Senate would be without Marco Rubio in the room. He is nothing more than another GOP obstructionist with no real record of his own.
Ms. Martin also might want to re-think her notions about the demographic help Mr. Ryan affords the GOP ticket. His appeal to Catholics might be a bit questionable given that the bishops characterized his budget proposal as "immoral" and, more importantly, the women religious---the nuns, who are fast becoming my favorite religious group---did as well. Midwesterners? Not those eligible or close to becoming eligible for Medicare and not those who are able to keep their farms only because they have become wind energy producers.
Mr. Ryan might, however, give the Romney campaign a lift by convincing the former governor to release those tax returns. Ms. Martin would then have a demographic with which she could safely say Mr. Ryan had helped: Those millions of Americans who are not going to vote for Mr. Romney if he doesn't release them.

AWWWW The heritage foundations right wing socialist Paul Ryan (Ayn Rand) the only people that are going to be excited about the Mittster VP pick are the same people that were already voting for him. Which by the way is not enough to win the election. It does however give the heritage foundation free media getting their draconian budget suggestions out to the public. I guess the Republican need to get started working on 2016.

The irony of someone from the GOP/Tea Party crowd characterizing Democrats as sheep is so jaw-dropping as to demand comment.
The fact of the matter is that getting a crowd of Democrats to agree on much of anything per policy matters is like herding cats. Reflective of America as a whole, we are a diverse lot with opinions and beliefs as diverse as our racial, ethnic, religious and economic makeup.
In other words, we have a right fair-sized tent. And having a right fair-sized tent means that there is plenty of room for disagreement and dissent. We are a disparate, but entertaining, bunch.
On the other hand, nowhere in the American body politic is the herd mentality so embedded as it is in the GOP/Tea Party ranks. When ideological purity trumps the common good, when a slavish devotion to principle is prioritized over the real interests of real people, there is no room for alternative thought---much less, dissent. Indeed, just how little room for dissent or difference now exists in this barely-recognizable remnant of the old Republican party is seen in the fact that a GOP/Tea Party office-holder who strays just an electron-sized iota from the ideological line risks being not only pilloried but "primary-ed" by his/her own; thrown out of that tiny, little tent, so to speak.
Sorry, but the sheep will be gathering in Tampa, not Charlotte. And the ultimate irony is that their candidate is the guy with the shears and a corner on the wool futures market.

What is going to be thrilling is the VP debates; Ryan vs. Biden, two Catholics going toe to toe. We might get a "I think I knew Ronald Regan, and you sir are no Ronald Regan..." moment.

To Stanley; "finally agree w/ john h
We have agreed on alot of things, Respect for all, Love of country and fellow human. Just slight proceedural differences is all. No worries.
It's winds up being a popularity contest. Whoever is the percieved winner of the debates gets the advantage.
Agree on the mass marketing tactics. Whoever can best spin their positions, truth or lies it matters not, gets the prize. Then we do what we do best....Adapt.

Ryan the Vice-Presidential pick of Romney, Wow! When the voters learn the details of Ryan's budget plan, and they will, it ensures Obama's reelection. It's almost that god is on Obama's side; first Sarah Palin (the idiot) and now Ryan (the social Darwinist.) Could hardly be better.

I don't think I have ever been SOOOO HAPPPPY with these two things - 1st : Romney picked Ryan (all of your comments tell the story of what this means and why I'm Happy) - 2nd : I really expected to leave a "battle comment" or two on here telling a bunch of FOXHEAD, GOPTEABAGGERS how ignorant they are and how they are betting against they and their families well being, not to mention their COUNTRY. I am so glad to see that the state I have made my home for the past 14 years is not just full of Right wing FOXHEAD morons, because it seems to be the only ones I am meeting lately; many are from up north believe it or not. this election taught me one lesson. The party that can lie the most and belive his/her own lies has no guilt about what his/her lies do to the lives of other people. The only thing that matters, do what ever it takes to gain power and to keep it over the little people. Do as I say not as I do. What a shame our people are so blind to be lead like sheep to the slaughter.

Wait you are in South Carolina, right? You guys voted for Gingrich over Mitt Romney.
Gingrich the serial adulterer! Over a good family man.
You guys have a Republican governor, and a Republican legislature since...well forever.
You guys have Republican policies and a higher unemployment rate than liberal New York.
You guys get more in federal outlays than you generate in federal tax revenue, and you dare to scream socialism.
(Please do not scream 'not true', it is, and you can easily look it up if you are honest)
And then you act this righteous? Seriously, doesn't the Bible say something about this kind of behavior?
