Brian Quick was a basketball player, and not a football player.

And that's what makes this former Ridge View High School athlete's story, published Tuesday in The State, so peculiar.

After just one year on the Ridge View football team, Quick developed into an outstanding and record-setting wide receiver at Appalachian State University. His first claim-to-fame was blocking the field goal and securing a victory for the Mountaineers over Michigan.

But he has become one of the school's all-time greats, and is now expected to be drafted among the first 75 to 150 players taken in this week's NFL Draft.

The draft starts Thursday night and continues through the weekend.
