Poll: Should Happy Mom Be Arrested At Graduation?
A Pee Dee woman was charged with disorderly conduct after cheering too loudly at her daughter's graduation.
The rules were everywhere.
Please be courteous, it said in the Swansea High School graduation.
No noise-makers or balloons allowed, it said outside Spring Valley High School's graduation.
Hold your applause until all names have been called, they say at nearly all graduations.
But should a proud mom who cheers loudly for her daughter be escorted out of the ceremony, placed in a police van and booked at detention?
That's what happened over the weekend in Florence. The woman talks about her experience to WPDE in the attached video.
What do you think? Vote in the poll and tell us in the comments below.

I have a feeling that we are not getting the whole story here. Others were escorted from the graduation ceremony without being arrested. What happened after this woman was escorted out of the ceremony that caused police to detain her?

I have attended several graduations where this has happened and not only is it disruptive it is down right rude. This is not a sporting event, it is a graduation. Act like a grown up!!!!

It's graduation, one of the proud moments that families cheer their sons and daughters. Or you can sit there like a robot.

How sad a robot can demonstrate more civility than some humans?

The schools have gone crazy. Arresting parents for cheering their child's graduation? We should all get up and cheer when a young person graduates , especially when so many drop out of school every day. I smell a justified lawsuit coming.

I was very proud when my son graduated, but save the cheering for the end so ALL parents can hear their son/daughters name! That's just common courtesy! This woman knew the rules, she made a choice.

What happened to freedom of speech? It's a shame that a parent cannot express words of joy and pride while watching her child reach a major acheivement in her life! Maybe the schools should take a few minutes longer so the parents can yell and applaud as they walk across the stage. Also the officers involved are supposed to use common sense when making arrest and applying the laws. And not all situations are best resolved with an arrest. We the people, speak up!

What about the rights of those who have the misfortune of following the overly enthusiastic cheering. Freedom of speech carries with it a degree of responsibility.

My sons are, hopefully, only 11 and 13 years away from graduating. But I attended three graduations last week at the Carolina Coliseum (for work and personal reasons), and I had no problem with people yelling out for their children, loved ones and friends. It's hard work for an entire family. And I had no problem hearing the next names being called.

i can understand if its a really big school however most experienced administrators anticipate that some parents will make noise no matter how politely you ask them not to so they will pause for a brief moment. i think its ok to cheer as long as it doesnt last longer than a quikt 10 seconds.
