Plant Market Hits Sandhill Saturday

Get your gardens ready for summer

The Sandhill Farmers Market is back, sort of.

The first event of the season at the Clemson Institute for Economic and Community Development will feature flower and plants vendors from across South Carolina, ready to help get your gardens growing.

The Sandhill Plant and Flower Market runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and includes more than a dozen vendors. In the event of rain, it will be pushed back to April 14.

And there's more than just flowers. Vendors will also be selling food, handmade outdoor furniture and gardening supplies.

Here's a full list of vendors expected for Saturday:

AAA Greenthumb Greenhouses, Bedding Plants, Potted Plants, Shrubs

B’s Greenhouses, Annuals (marigolds, salvia, petunia),perennials, hanging baskets (petunia, million bells, mixed),veg. plants (tomato, pepper, squash, cucumber, eggplant

Company of Oh’s, Sour dough bread, pound cakes, cinnamon rolls, apple pies, cookies, Danish braids,  gooey butter cakes and more

Cooper’s Family Farm, Flowering plants(spider flower, marigolds, zinnias, cock's comb, Bachelor's button,periwinkle, Mexican Sunflower, Mexican petunia-redreulla); vegetable plants (all varieties of tomatoes, bell and hot peppers), hanging pots (impatience, begonia, petunia); moon vine, blackeye susans, cosmos and ferns

Truesdale Farms, Landscape Plants, knockout roses, assorted perennials, blueberry bushes, grapevines, fig trees

Dixie Ridge Growers, Annuals, perennials, coleus, angelonia, blueberry & blackberry plants, tea olives, elephant ears, verbena, rosemary, guara, blue daze

Shady Character’s, Plants for shady gardens (Hostas, Heucheras, Tiarellas, Ferns, and Polygonatums)

Keeler Landscape and Design, Landscape Plants, Azaleas, Loropetalums and evergreen shrubs

Mike Meier, Handmade bird houses and butterfly houses

Flower Power, Special grafted heirloom tomatoes, (Mortgage lifter, Cherokee purple)These Super maters have roots that are more resistant to soil born diseases, with fruit as big and sweet as we expect from heirlooms; assorted landscape plants, house plants and succulents.

Childrens Garden, Amelia Cotty, Past President, RC Master Gardeners

Richland County Master Gardeners, Bryce Haywood, and others will answer gardening and landscape questions and give instructions for soil testing. You may bring a plant for them to examine. They will have gardening gloves  for sale.
