A Columbia man was killed Saturday afternoon when the motorcycle he was driving struck a pickup truck, said Lexington County Coroner Harry Harman

Walter David Ard, 45, was driving his motorcycle westbound on Old Barnwell Road at a high rate of speed when he collided with the truck at the intersection of Collumwood Circle after the driver of the pickup stopped in the roadway to retrieve a piece of metal, Harman said.

Ard was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death is pending autopsy results.   

The accident remains under investigation by the Lexington County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
