Kidnapping Suspect Arrested After Falling Through Ceiling

A 21-year-old man was charged in connection with the May kidnapping of an elderly couple.

Donald Javonta Smith is charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, burglary and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection to a May robbery when Smith and another man allegedly robbed an elderly couple at gunpoint, according to a Columbia Police press release.

Smith was arrested after he allegedly fell through the ceiling of a home where he was hiding in attic.

While officers were inside the home questioning the occupants, Smith fell through the ceiling and onto the floor, according to the release.

Smith, John Brandon Foster, and an unidentified suspect are accused of forcing their way inside an elderly couple’s home on Koon Road.

The men allegedly made death threats to the victims, pointed guns at them, and forced the couple to lie on the ground before stealing a wallet, purse, electronics, jewelry and guns.
