Democrat Reprimanded for 'Sikh Jesus' Comment
Party official admits tweet was improper, takes down personal account.
A South Carolina Democratic Party official has been reprimanded for calling Gov. Nikki Haley a "Sikh Jesus" on the social networking site Twitter.
Phil Bailey, the political director for South Carolina Senate Democrats, was apparently reprimanded for the tweet at a luncheon today, according to the Associated Press.
Bailey's Twitter account has since been closed, and he has apparently admitted the comment was inappropriate.
Bailey's comments Wednesday came after GOP leaders voted to put a candidate Haley backs on the ballot after the individual was ruled ineligible.
Haley, raised in a Sikh, Indian-American household, is now a Methodist.

Does anyone besides me wonder about her religious conversion? Just think about if these same circumstances applied to Obama. We would still be reading conspiracy stuff and the GOP would be demanding congressional investigations. Just a thought.

I could care less what religion she practices. As long as a public official obeys the law, and operates in the general public interest - without showing any type of exclusivity in representation, be it on grounds of religion or anything else - it has absolutely nothing to do with his or her qualifications. It shouldn't mean more than a horoscope sign when it comes to public office.

I would never dare speak to someone's religious background or practice, whether they were Democrat or Republican... However, I will say that it is well-known that the Haley family belongs to Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church and the family takes part in activities there. That is where my family attends as well.

@Chris Winston: "I would never dare speak to someone's religious background or practice..."
then you go on to speak of the gov's practice of attending "Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church"
neither would 'i dare to speak of religious background or practice'...BUT;
"She has said that she regularly attends a Methodist church but occasionally visits a Sikh temple in honor of her family."
i think it's great SC has a woman with such a diverse background as their gov...her sikh roots are a positive...
to repeat sikhs are more christian in practice than the hypocrites who profess to practice Jesus' teaching...hope this applies to the gov, but she is a politician...which kinda and sadly foregoes any christian or sikh practices.
also sad all too many see her (and others) as a 'raghead'...guess they need a word to replace the N-word in their vocabulary...

Stanley, I'm suggesting I don't know what she practices religiously. But since I SEE her at Mount Horeb, I thought was worth pointing out.

@Chris Winston: "...I don't know what she practices religiously..."
i was just being a smart-a...busting yo whatever...nothing serious...and all "seriousness" aside:
i fully agree with maizenbluedoc: "Of all the problems facing South Carolinians, one's religious beliefs is not one of them."
also agree with reg: "I could care less what religion she [or anyone] practices."

Fact: Of all the problems facing South Carolinians, one's religious beliefs is not one of them. Maybe the pundits should be more concerned with our abysmal educational system.
